Winter Postal Shoots have begun!

Our first Winter Postal shoot was completed on Sunday with what I think is a record turn out - so many thanks to everyone who participated!

The dates for each of the shoots are as follows:

• 25th November2012
• 16th December 2012
• 20th January 2013
• 17th February 2013
• 17th March 2013

For anyone who doesn't know, the Winter Postal shoot is a Portsmouth (5 dozen at 18m), and the top 6 scores will make up our two teams. Everyone can have a go, even if you don't make the teams, it's good practice for scoring, and keeping track of your progress!

Newer Archers - try shooting a Round..

If you have been a member for a few weeks now and you find yourself getting a fairly good group at 50 yards then why not score a round ? 

At most Club Sundays targets are set at 60 and 50 yards.. and using these distances Gents Recurve can achieve up to a 2nd Class classification, and Ladies Recurve a 1st class classification.

To do this the easiest route is to shoot a round called a National, which is 4 dozen arrows at 60 yards and 2 dozen at 50 yards. 

Pair up with someone and score each other's sheet and hand your scores to me when you next see me.   

Don't be afraid to ask any of the more seasoned club members to help you score. I would be happy to shoot and score with you. Sheets are kept in the cupboard. 

For Gents 

436 or better will get a 2nd class, 319 or better is a 3rd class.. 

For Ladies  

436 or better is a 1st and 336 is a 2nd class, 205 or better is a 3rd class.. 

For Gents Long Bows you will need 88 for a 3rd class and 146 for 2nd..  

You will need to achieve the score three times (not necessarily consecutive scores) to qualify.

Arundown vs Holbrook

A very humid and hot day for shooting..  plus rumbles of thunder and a lightning fork display at lunch time - luckily the rain held off. 

Our Clout team deserve a medal for shooting the day before too .. well done..! 

They pipped us by 5 points but we certainly shook their tree ! Watch out Holbrook - we will have you next time..!

Great shoot, nice grounds, a bit of a trek from the car park so it's worth bringing some sort of trolley or a horse- I forgot both, typical !

Results of the Winter Postal League

I've now had the final results of the Winter Portsmouth League...

Our 'A' team came second in their division.
Our 'B' team came in sixth although on points we would have come in third, but our losses let us down.

Selby League - date change

Please note that the dates have changed for the Selby League shoots, this months' shoot will now be on 27th May.

As one ends, another begins.... the SELBY LEAGUE!!

It's that time of year again... the Selby League begins this month!

We have four teams entered this year, Recurve A and B teams and also Longbow A and B teams.

RECURVE DETAILS
Our Recurve teams will shoot a Short Metric, which is 3 dozen at 50m and 3 dozen at 30m on a 80cm target face. Top six scores on the day will make up the teams, so the more people can shoot the better! These will be taking place on Sunday mornings:

• 27th May
• 17th June
• 22nd July
• 26th August
• 23rd September

As far as I know these dates do not clash with anything else, but if there are any problems let me know.

LONGBOW DETAILS
Our Longbow teams will shoot a National, which is 4 dozen at 60yds and 2 dozens at 50yds on a 122cm target face. Top four scores on the day will make up the team. These shoots will be taking place on Friday evenings, if you cannot make Friday but want to take part please let me know...

Winter Postal League - update

Hi All,

Well that ends another Winter League! Many thanks to all who participated and those who made the teams. Results wont be out yet but I have just received an update of the Dec/Jan results...

Our A team are placed joint first, however last month we lost to our joint leaders - so that scuppers that result somewhat!!!

Our B team are placed fourth, but there is good news for individual performances...

For division 23 (A team) Alex Blows was top scoring man for December, and Liz Bowyer (that would be me!) was top scoring lady for January.

For division 42 (B team), Jenny Francis was top scoring lady for January.

I'll be submitting the last scores today so we will see if we have improved overall this year....

Also, the Summer postal will be starting in May. I'll be entering 2 recurve and 2 longbow teams this year (recurve are teams of 3, longbow are teams of 2). Dates for the shoots will be announced in the coming weeks.

K2 Indoor Shoot 4th March

It was a long day for some of us. We had four entrants in the 1st Session, and two teams of four in the 3rd, and Rob and Rod running the show all day.
In the morning Session Jenny was a bit separated from the others, but she was shooting with Jeanetta Braun who became Recurve Champion, which must have inspired Jenny as she pulled off yet another PB. And then helped key in the scores for the 1st & 2nd Sessions.

And almost next door, the other three didn't quite manage PBs on this occasion

The Team Selection Policy - which was to try to have equal strength teams rather than an obvious A and B - worked well, the teams were placed next to each other in the results, 20th and 21st out of 33, with only two all-recurve teams in front (there were ten all-recurve teams in all). Alex did brilliantly, scoring 532 for the FITA18 and coming 9th out of 66 in his class.
