Five members of Arundown AC took part in the GNAS National Clout Championships at Harrogate on Saturday 20th October and a FITA Clout the following day. The final result was a worthy reward for our intrepid band of archers, who braved the perils of road travel on "Black Friday" to return with five top ten placings in the National Championships and four Sussex county records.
130 competitors from the length and breadth of the UK converged on St John Fisher School in Harrogate for the National Clout on the Saturday. Glorying in the good weather, Arundown's archers set about their task to record some excellent results:
- Liz Bowyer 10th in the Ladies Recurve;
- Jon Stafford 6th, Russell French 8th and Rod Brown 10th in the Gents Recurve; and
- a magnificent 2nd in the Gents Longbow for Graham Brown.
The following day Liz Bowyer set two new Ladies county records, while Rod Brown improved on the county barebow record by 14 points. A great weekend for the club, so a huge well done to everyone who shot at Harrogate.
Photos from the two events can be found on the Arundown website. It is rumoured that the stars of last weekend will be available at the school next Friday evening to sign autographs, so please form an orderly queue outside the hall at around 6.30pm.
