As you may know I started things in motion last Friday, but due to new members not presently having GNAS numbers and the new design entry forms for the event, we are going to play it slightly differently. These two shoots were at separate venues last year, but the SCAS and SCAA have been amalgamated at the K2 in Crawley on the 15th March. These two shoots are the most prestigious shoots at the end of the winter calendar.
Up until now, entry forms allowed clubs to block submit archers. This year the 5 page entry form has to be read, signed and entered by each archer in the individual events. So can I please ask that anyone intending to enter an individual event downloads and sends off their own forms (link below). I would suggest you have a chat with those you know at the club, if you want to consider a car share nearer the time.
Those of you wanting a temporary GNAS number, please talk to Rod after paying outstanding club and affiliation fees to Graham. The GNAS number has to be on the entry form and please make sure you have your card with you on the day. Without the GNAS card, you will not be allowed to shoot.
Rod also has a "Your First Tournament" guide, which he can make available to anyone worried what to do on their first shoot.
You will need to familiarise yourself with the etiquette of shooting at a tournament. Make sure you read the club guide and if you have any questions ask one of the more experienced archers. I would recommend you start shooting rounds leading up to the event to practice etiquette. We are a friendly bunch and we don't mind helping you.
One thing I will mention is dress code. As this is a County event you will likely be removed from the shooting line if you are not dressed appropriately. GNAS colours are either a white or green (defiantly not khaki!) scheme or registered club colours. If you are looking for tops, I recommend a polo shirt in green/white. For white trousers I recommend outdoor bowls trousers, which you can picked up at the Worthing Bowls shop (the material is also good for outdoor events, as it is grass stain resistant). Junior girls are harder and you still need to shop around for trousers. For green trousers, I recommend Craghoppers, North Face, or Regatta Action Trousers MKII. You can pick these up in Worthing at Blacks and Millets, or Littlehampton at Tropicana or Stockley Trading (although North Face is a Blacks/Millets brand). If they don't have green (they usually don't) try another colour for size and most will order in a set for you. Again, make sure they are green and not Khaki!

I will just explain the three events, but I suggest you visit the SCAA website if you need further information: -
Southern Counties AS (SCAS) Individual Championship
SCAS covers Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, County of London, Middlesex, Norfolk, Oxfordshire, Suffolk, Surrey, Sussex
This is a Portsmouth round which many of you would be familiar with in our hall. The Portsmouth round is shot using 10 zone scoring (i.e. inner gold is 10, outer gold 9 and so on) on a 60 cm diameter target face. Compounds are required to use the inner ten ring to even things up a bit. It consists of 5 dozen (60) arrows shot in 3 arrow ends at a distance of 20 yards (18.3 metres).
Sussex County Archery Association (SCAA) Team Championship
This is a team of 4 archers, with one archer being a lady or junior and at least 2 archers have to be recurve. This is a FITA 18 round. The FITA 18 round is shot using 10 zone scoring on a 40 cm diameter target face. Compounds are required to use the inner ten ring. It consists of 5 dozen (60) arrows shot in 3 arrow ends at a distance of 18 metres.
Sussex County Archery Association (SCAA) Individual Round
Individual archers, shooting a FITA 18 round as explained above.
I have been told that places are filling up fast in all rounds, so I would suggest everyone gets a form in as fast as they can.
Teams: - Last year we had a shoot off for team selection which is rather mercenary, but I don't believe we are doing that this year. I have suggested an "A" Team, but we need to sort out who will be in the second team. If we get two more archers, we can enter 3 teams! Can I suggest that you all talk this through and come to a mutual agreement on who will enter the team event. The Team entry fee of £30.00 will be split equally between the 4 archers.
Update: - We may organise a 40cm shoot-off, depending on who wishes to shoot and numbers.
Suggested Team A: -
Liz
Russell
Hamish
Rod
Other archers expressing an interest in a Team: -
John Nolan
Declan
Ciaran
