Peter Newman - who used to be an Arundown member but now almost entirely a Field Archer - invited us over to shoot in the
Fleet Ibex New Year fun 3-D day. There were a number of drops-outs due to assorted back pains, D-I-Y projects, and Persistent Coughs, so only four went, but had a very good time. We shot at (mostly life-size) rubber models of Big Deer, Little Deer, Bears, Badgers, Raccoons, Porcupines, Marmots, Turkeys, Lynx, Pheasant, Crocodile, Wild Boar and several unidentified lumps of latex. Unfortunately the Brass Monkeys had been taken away to have frost-damage repaired. As usual in NFAS rounds many of the shots were made as tricky as possible, with only a very narrow corridor between trees and other hazards. On this occasion we got just one shot at each target so the learning curve wasn't so much a curve as a rather broken flat-line, but when we watched some of the regular Traditional-Style field archers performing we realised we were by no means total pratts. Russ turned out to be a natural Instinctive Long-bow field archer (when he wasn't hitting trees), and Alex shaped up very well as a first-timer, getting several inner-zone 'kills'. A beautiful sunny day, but
C-O-L-D, even the hot food they were serving was Chilly (I think that's what she said)
